Naomi Urbina

Veterinarian, DVM, MS

Dr. Urbina is the owner of Escaya Veterinarians and has been providing veterinary care to pet owners and their pets in the Otay Ranch community since 2014. She graduated in 2008 from Western University of Health Sciences and since then has practiced general small animal medicine in the San Diego area at various hospitals.

Why did you decide to open Escaya Veterinarians? I have a vision for my veterinary clinic to be a great example of individual care and attention- to pets, their families, and my staff. I am proud to be one of the minority- and female-owned small businesses servicing this community that I love.

What do you enjoy most about being a veterinarian? Aside from being able to help the animals, it’s really the relationships that I build with the owners that provides me with motivation. I feel a huge responsibility to take care of these valued members of my clients’ families and that is never lost on me. Sometimes it keeps me up at night, worrying about a particular patient!

What fields do you hold a special interest in? I like anything that exercises my brain and analytical skills- internal medicine, behavior, clinical pathology, and research. And I enjoy the fine skill of dentistry too! I have a particular passion for birds of prey. Establishing a local rehab center for these majestic animals is one of the things on my bucket list.

What do you like to do in your free time? The past few years I’ve been training my middle dog to do agility! For both of us it’s so much fun and a great way to get outside and exercise a little. I love how we are both in tune with each other, communicating in that special non-verbal way.

Tell us something unique about yourself. I am a clinician-scientist! I work part-time at a biotech company developing rapid tests for both human and veterinary diagnostics.

Lauren Salcido

Veterinarian, DVM

Dr. Salcido began her veterinary career in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she worked as support staff at a small animal veterinary practice. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Biology at Pomona College in Claremont, CA and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Tufts University in Massachusetts. She practiced veterinary medicine in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern Virginia before settling in San Diego. Dr. Salcido enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but especially surgery, internal medicine, dentistry, and preventative medicine. She has worked in many very busy veterinary practices, but what she loves most is spending quality time with her patients and their owners and building lasting relationships. She finds and provides the best solutions for each pet and owner and is very thorough in her approach, treating the whole pet instead of just one particular problem. In her spare time, she enjoys reading novels, hiking, camping, and exploring the San Diego area with her husband and young daughters.

Briyana B.

Veterinary Assistant, VA

My name is Briyana and I am currently a Student at Oregon State University to get my Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology with a Minor in Animal Science. I started working in Veterinary Medicine 6 years ago and it most definitely is my passion. I have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 18 chickens and a leopard gecko. What attracted me to work at Escaya Veterinarians was how great the staff and quality of care is. It is such a positive work environment and I really feel like it is a good place to learn. What I enjoy most about being a Vet Assistant is being the voice of the patients. They cannot physically speak or tell us what is wrong , it is our job to be able to be their voice and advocate for them. I absolutely love wound care and orthopedics. I would have to say those are my favorite cases.
In my free time , I am an avid reader, i love to hike, and spend time with my children and pets. I am a homebody but also like the outdoors.
